I spend so much time thinking about what happened to the Hilton sisters--the older ones, Kathy, Kyle, and Kim. I watch RHOBH and Kathy is clearly just not able to cope with anything at all. She reads like if Betty Draper got stuck in the Mommy's Helper era of her life. I though Paris' memoir was great and very illuminating, not least of all her extremely odd relationship with her mother that you note here.
i would LOVE to read you write something about the hilton sisters!!! that's so interesting that kathy seems unable to deal with anything. i've never watched real housewives-- i'd love to hear why you watch
I think I mostly watch for the character development and the pageantry. There's really no other narrative arc--in reality OR fiction--where I can absolutely detest a person and a few seasons later love them. I also love the anthropological element of watching female friendship culture. And, esp in RHOBH, it's really interesting the see how meta it gets in terms of actually watching them navigate what they'll let the cameras know. The most scorched earth thing a housewife can do it tell a secret on camera that's explicitly an off camera secret.
